Familia begins in a shanty town outside Lima, Peru. Fifty year old Nati Barrientos is about to close her large suitcase as her life partner, Daniel, silently looks on. In only a few hours she will leave her family for the first time in her life. Nati is going for work in Spain hoping to provide her man and children a better future. But before she leaves, Daniel has final important question for her: “Do you really love me?”

When his wife is gone, Daniel struggles to keep the household together. His major concern is the eight year old son, Nata. How will he cope with his mother`s absence? The growth up children Judith and Dani still live at home, unable to find steady work and a home of their own. Dani Also has difficulties facing the fact that he became father at very young age. When he turns to violence against his young wife, the situation turns unbearable for everyone.

An intimate told story about love and family relations in globalised world. The film includes photographical and filmed material spanning over 35 years.
